Safe Haven Task Force
In February 2002, the County of Los Angeles Board of Supervisors requested that the Children's Planning Council convene a Safe Haven Task Force to develop recommendations for more effectively implementing the Safe Haven Law, also referred to as the "Surrendered Baby Law" in the County of Los Angeles. The Board encouraged the Task Force to use a prevention-oriented focus that could achieve the goal of no babies ever being abandoned in the County. On June 4, 2002, the Board adopted the Safe Haven Task Force's 12 recommendations. These recommendations serve as the foundation for the implementation efforts currently underway in the County of Los Angeles.
